Requests for Ideas and Proposals
Issued for Kinston Neuse River Development Project
Pride of Kinston, on behalf of the Waterfront -Now! task force and the City of Kinston, has issued Requests for Proposals to developers seeking ideas for converting the old power plant property along the Neuse River into retail or other uses as a destination. In a separate move, Pride has issued a Request for Qualifications to secure proposals by artists, with experience working with engineers, for designing a pedestrian bridge across the Neuse connecting Neuseway Nature Center with Kinston's downtown.
A Request for Qualifications will be issued soon for engineering firms with experience working with artists in designing and building structures such as bridges. A panel of local residents will be engaged to review both artists and engineering firms' proposals and qualifications.
Construction of a pedestrian bridge across the river has been declared a major priority for the larger riverfront project which would encompass some 6-8 miles of Kinston's riverfront. The conceptual vision for the development was crafted last year by local residents, Pride's Kinston Waterfront - Now! Task Force and graduate students at North Carolina State University's College of Design.
