After they help pick up the trash, Kinston’s cleaning brigades
will be treated to energetic tunes and delectable barbecue.
The second Downtown Clean-Up Day this year, set for Saturday, Oct.
21, 2006 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, is being sponsored by Pride of
Kinston, the Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce and the City
of Kinston.
Once their work is done, the roving bands of volunteers will be treated
to barbecue from King’s Restaurant, and tunes delivered by popular
local musicians Some Assembly Required. Headquarters for the post-clean-up
festivities will be the O. A. (Buddy) Ritch Parking Lot at the corner
of Queen and Blount Streets, just across the street from Pride of
Kinston offices. Food and music will be dispensed at 1:00 pm from
the lot which serves the Kinston Community Health Center.
The Clean-Up Day activities are being organized by Pride of Kinston’s
Design Committee chaired by Shirley Herring, long-time advocate for
a beautiful downtown. “We are pleased to have the City and the
Chamber of Commerce as our partners,” she said.
Volunteers are being asked to arrive at Pride of Kinston’s
offices (327 N. Queen Street) by 9:30 am to receive supplies, i.e.
gloves, trash bags, and maps of assigned areas for cleaning. Cleaning
sweeps will be conducted from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
