Anti-Littering Resolution May 3, 2007 WHEREAS, The Appearance Commission was created June 7, 1999 and made a permanent body of the City of Kinston on December 2, 2002; and WHEREAS, the Mission of the Appearance Commission is to encourage, support, protect, promote and conserve clean and attractive environments affecting public and private lands, buildings and properties; and WHEREAS, we believe our mission safeguards and preserves the character and heritage of our community, its social, economic, cultural, political and architectural history, and promotes the conservation of Kinston and its environs for the education, pleasure and enrichment of residents of the City, County of Lenoir and our State of North Carolina; and WHEREAS, it is the considered judgment of the members of the Appearance Commission that a locally enacted and enforced anti-littering ordinance is compatible with the work and mission of the Appearance Commission; and WHEREAS, we believe that a locally enacted and enforced anti-littering ordinance is compatible with the aims of our City Government and Officials to maintain public streets, roads, passageways and private properties in a manner to achieve clean and attractive appearances for the benefit of residents, tourists and visitors to our community; and WHEREAS, we believe that the appearance of our community is a statement about how we care for our community; THEREFORE, we the members of the Kinston Appearance Commission do petition and request the Kinston City Council to enact a local anti-littering ordinance with appropriate and enforceable penalties; and FURTHER, we request and petition the Kinston City Council to publish, promote and encourage compliance with said anti-littering ordinance among the people of our community.
