Downtown Kinston Business Needs Survey

November 2010

As we move towards the end of a challenging year, and start to look ahead to 2011, Pride of Kinston is launching a downtown needs assessment--seeking your view of the top five needs of your business.

Our findings will help the Pride Board of Directors and committees fine tune our programs and services. This assessment continues Pride's planning initiated with a Board and Committee retreat last year, the Community Visioning conference held earlier this year, and an Appearance Summit held in October.

A new vision statement for Pride emerged from our 2009-2010 discussions:

"The vision of Pride of Kinston, Inc. is a downtown on the banks of the Neuse River that serves as the gateway to Eastern North Carolina. Our appreciation of history guides our future and promotes the magic to grow business, recreation, and the arts."

Downtown lunch meetings to be initiated

Beginning in January 2011, Pride will be hosting a dutch lunch with downtown business owners and entrepreneurs. This will be an opportunity for exchange of information, to express concerns and to make suggestions.

The format will be casual…No dues, fees (except for lunch), guidelines or by laws.

The first lunch meeting will be held 12 noon, Jan. 26, 2011 at Our Picnic Basket, 214-216 North Herritage Street.

Guy Smith, of the North Carolina Department of Cultual Resources, will present a slide presentation describing the final design details for the Civil War Museum to be constructed on Queen Street beginning in Spring 2011.

The dates and places are:

  • Jan. 26, 2011 at Our Picnic Basket, 214-216 North Herritage Street

  • Feb. 23, 2011 at the Broken Eagle, 220 North Herritage

  • Mar. 23, 2011 at the Folded Napkin, 115 West North Street
