The Flag Field of Honor is a way we honor our veterans from Lenoir County and the surrounding areas. The Flag Field of Honor is a designated area where American Flags representing veterans from all branches of the military are placed together. Each flag has a tag with a Veteran's name and branch of service printed on it. Each tag is attached to the staff of the flag with a red poppy and a patriotic ribbon.
In May, we remember our deceased veterans on Memorial Day. In the fall, we honor our living Veterans on Veterans Day. The flags will remain in the designated fields for two weeks – one week before and one week after each holiday.
The Flag Field of Honor is done twice a year as fundraisers for G.I. Joe's Living History Museum, which is operated totally on donations and run by volunteers. The flags can be sponsored for any Veteran, living or deceased. This includes the National Guard and any of the Reserve Components. They are Veterans, also! Please help G.I. Joe's continue to help our local Veterans by honoring your Veteran of choice by sponsoring a flag for only $10.00. If you wish to sponsor a flag for both holidays, the donation cost is $18.00.
Corporate sponsorship is also available. Please contact Salute! Treasurer, Carol Cantu, for all the details at (252) 560-0590.
